Wonderful item, it does what it says it does. Out of the box, installation was less than 10 mins with installation of the software and drivers. I was up and running and after figuring out some of the functions that weren't that well described in the manual, pretty soon it took me back to the old days when I used to mix vinyl records. The problem is that the jog dials, though very responsive, aren't accurate enough for the scratching motions needed for turntablist hip hop scratching. You can scratch and do pullbacks and do some scratch tricks, just don't expect to be mixmaster mike with this fader. There is a little latency from the movements of your wrist and the actual sound coming out of the speakers. For fading in between songs it is fine, and for minimal scratching it is ok at best. Otherwise, for everything else, it is a wonderful toy for the hobbyist dj, you can loop, sample and add effects with ease. But smoke and mirrors aside, professionals should definitely look elsewhere, and they wouldn't be reading up on something like this anyway with their purist attitude.

Having the proper mixer is one of the most important equipments for a mobile Dj. This is that mixer. I initially bought the Hercules MKII, but returned it when I found this one for $80 dollars more. It's been fantastic and user friendly. Using Virtual DJ, you can program up to 12 different effects((6 per deck). I use it for mobile gigs and all I bring is my laptop, hard drive, powered(pre amped) speakers, and this mixer...then I'm good to go. You can even control your music videos and of course Karaoke. I've even used this mixer to plug into the club(that I guest DJ at) and it has worked great. Other Dj's compliment me on the mixer once they try it. I don't use it for scratching, I plug my cd decks to the mixer though and do the scratching through them. Yes, you can plug either turntables or CD decks. Again, A Must for mobile DJ's.

The Hercules DJ Console RMX is a great mid-level mixer for DJ’s of all levels. For beginners it’s a great board to learn the craft as you continue to improve your mixing talents. For intermediates, the Hercules RMX provides a mixing board that you can take to any gig and show off your skills as you get the crowd off their feet and rock the house. Advanced DJ’s will probably want a board that offers a bit more flexibility than the Hercules DJ Console RMX, but it’s a great board to serve as a backup for when things go wrong with your favorite pieces of equipment. Throw in the dedicated VirtualDJ 5 DJC Edition mixing software and you have a board that not only looks great, but also gives you all the power to take your mixing talents to the next level.

I have used the RMX and personally feel it is way overrated. The Virtual DJ program is ok at best, and the controller itself is wack. It freezes and locks up all the time. I tried 2 different units and they both were awful. I went with the Numark Omni Control console, and that is the answer. Scratching is limited, but it is reliable and sturdy. The Trakter 3LE software is very cool too. I would recommend staying away from the Hercules RMX until the kinks are worked out.

So far, I’m extremely satisfied by the Hercules DJ Console RMX. The DJ audio interfaces I was looking at while shopping generally ranged from $200-$300, so for about $100 more I got the interface I needed plus an excellent control surface! For my needs this all-in-one DJ console is way better than having a separate audio interface and two control turntables, as the transportation and setup is much simpler. The feel of the unit is solid and professional, and in my opinion rivals the build quality of the revered VCI-100. Of course, it completely blows its predecessors and the Behringer console completely out of the water. I have yet to test this extensively in a ‘real world’ party situation, but I’ve got one lined up for tonight so I’ll let you know how it goes! Despite its few flaws, I highly recommend this to anyone needing a solid audio interface and DJ control surface.

As an entry-level digital DJ package, the Hercules DJ Console Rmx offers high-quality hardware at an outstanding value, but you'll want to spend a little more for better software....
