Pros: The best hands down. If you cant get an original this is will do just fine.
Cons: Heavy. You need a road crew for this one.

So, the valve titans have clashed albeit with slightly less tragic consequences of Greek mythology. Ask yourself what you want from an amplifier stack. If you favour extended-range bass, a mix of effects, a versatile tonal palette and extra headroom combined with relative ease of transport (in the world of 8 x 10s at least) then the Laney has the edge. You’ll need to spend more time dialling in a sound, perhaps more than you might expect when the brief is for an all-valve stack, and you may find yourself making comparisons to other hybrid or solid state high-end amplifiers that could deliver similar results. Laney would probably direct you themselves to their own Nexus FET range. If your search is for real vintage warmth and a dead simple bass-chord-amp relationship then the Ampeg delivers the goods. You’ll pay a little more for the privilege of simplicity and a bouncing tone but you won’t be disappointed.

Ok, this amp is not cheap, and it would probably cost you about $2800 to get the shale rig. But if classic Ampeg tone and vibes is your thing, go try one out. If you're a former 70' SVT owner and are looking for another one, give it a try, you might live it. I'm tying to see former SVT owner review on this site.
While I was shopping around for a Tube head, a few tech told me to avoid tube amps, but I've discovered that if you can afford the tube replacement, it's really worth it. Hey I was playing the #1 hybrid amp "SVT-4" and when I started playing full tube heads, I seared never to turn back. Now if that head was available before, I would have got one.
