| I own 3 of the PL35's and plan to purchase 6 more. I did an A B against the EV PL35, Shure Beta 56a and Beta 57 earlier tonight on the drums. All 3 mics had the exact same db output using identical settings on our console +/- 1db. On toms, the beta 56 and 57 (which use the same capsule) had a slightly cleaner midrange (possibly scooped more than the PL35 capsule), maybe tighter is a better word when compared to the PL35. The PL35 seemed more natural or closer to what I was hearing in the room. On the snare the beta series seemed to have just a slight bit more punch/bottom end, just enough to notice. Rolling off 3-4db at 250hz on the PL35 and bringing the fader up to compensate, you then could not tell which mic was which. | |
