In conclusion, is the ElectroVoice PL33 the best choice for recording a kick drum? The answer is obviously "No." There are other high end, high priced microphones that are better for this purpose, including the ElectroVoice RE20 for example, which I have personally used for years. However, in this price range, there are not many microphones to rival the ElectroVoice PL33 for the purpose of recording the kick drum, especially for live situations. This microphone sounds very good, one of my nephews uses one in his home studio, I have personal experience with it and like it. For a person on a budget who is looking for a good kick drum microphone for their home studio, I heartily recommend this microphone for your consideration.
