| I had a GH100TI. I didn't have any of the problems that John Phillips had but who's to say it wouldn't have happened. This one has been shipped over the US twice, into Canada once, and across Canada twice. It still worked perfect. Mine had chassis mounted tube sockets and a terroidal transformer. It sounded like a cross between a Mesa and a Marshall.....super aggressive preamp with a big bottom end and a more upper midrange flavour. I never tried it with 6L6s but I'm told they sound even more Mesa like with those. It was reasonably quiet for a high gain amp unless you turned on the treble boost, but if you're using the treble boost then what do you expect, honestly? I think that alot of metal heads would love this amp.....one single channel with 5 gain stages and you can still roll off the gain with your guitar's volume knob. It even has a good clean tone if you plug into the low sensitivity input, not that this will help you for live applications unless you want to run two amps. I ended up selling it because I was moving in a different direction. I wanted a more open tone that was more about overdrive and less preamp gain. | |
