| Good, round fat cleans can be had out of this amp as well as a lot of twang as well, very versatile in that respect, depending how you set the volume and tone knobs. The dirt/grit/break-up doesn't start to happen until you plug into the 'Hi' setting and push the volume past 8 or so. Tubes sound extremley good pushed I must say, nice mild crunch going on, but for OD at lower volumes, I'm going to have investigate a Bad Monkey methinks. It is a reliable amp, hasn't broken down or anything, the speaker in this sounds fantastic for the sound I'm trying to go for (a Celestion Super 8). | |

| The Cub 8 is a great little amp for many applications with the exception of compressed bedroom level rocking - for that you'll need a distortion/overdrive pedal. If that isn't your bag then simply keep it clean, and you'll find the Class A valve voicing to be warm, supple and great for vintage '60s twang. The Cub 10, however, has a whole lot more in the locker room for your average player to enjoy. There are plenty of situations when small is king, and the Cub 8 allows you to get that vintage-style tone for peanuts - but the Cub 10 will suit more players across a broader range of styles. Surprisingly different voicings - but at these prices, why not buy one of each? | |

| Lovely little amp overall. 5W Class A, nice warm tone and incredibly touch sensitive. I found it a little dark with the tone on 5 when played with my Mira and my home made tele (GFS Mean 90 bridge and BKP Mothers Milk neck) but whacking it up to 7 or 8 fixed that. Volume wise, my word it's loud! I don't think I'll be able to use it for anything particularly clean or glassy but the real joy I found is to stick it all the way up to 10 on the volume for some gorgeous distortion and then playing with the guitar volume to change the character of the distortion. So volume on guitar down to 7 plus coil taps on the Mira gave a lovely clean-ish sound, just about loud enough for rehearsals with the drummer. | |
